about

A Maori and a Jew walk into a bar. They both start work. The chefs throw tantrums and toss salad. The bar keeps the customers entertained, the bar keeps the customers entertaining. The head manager’s a prick. The assistant manager is drunk. The girl who runs the pass will bite your head off if you pass the right table, but if you pass the right chat she will sleep with you. At midnight their shifts end and their night begins, knockoffs lead to knockouts, to delayed days, to debriefs and no time for the assignments, tests, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, future, past and part of them that needs to be attended to. A Maori and a Jew walk into a bar. They both start work. A new shift begins, the old cycle complete.

The Minds Migration (TMM) is a conceptual undertaking of this old cycle. Formulated in the old negro spiritual of hip hop traditions, born from the breath of Miles Davis, germinated in the minds of two entangled protagonists. The Minds Migration heavy soviet jazz influences are juxtaposed by the traditional coconut drums of the Rangipungha tribe creating a unique blend of the pairs ethnic roots, synthesized in the sounds of the golden era of hip-hop.

TMM is embedded with motifs of light, the impermanence of time, existential and socialist philosophy. These themes are weaved throughout the album through a dialogue between the two feature artists, formulating a dialectic that unfolds across the album.

From their fingertips gold spoke, from their mouths descriptions of the inscrutable... a series of tasty sounds and showered thoughts inevitably collided, to produce what can only be described as 'pretty good'. ... more
